Personal Flowers
Bridal bouquets, bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnières, corsages, family flowers, and custom personal pieces designed around the clothing and overall wedding aesthetic.
Boston Public Library • Copley Square • Boston, Massachusetts
When your wedding is inside one of Boston's most iconic buildings, generic flowers are not enough. Designs By Don Florist creates full-service wedding floral design for couples who want the bouquet, ceremony, reception, and room reveal to feel intentional from the first photograph to the last table.
Designed for the Boston Public Library
It deserves a floral plan created around the rooms, the photographs, and the way you want the entire wedding to feel.
The McKim Building gives you marble, murals, carved stone, vaulted ceilings, oak reading tables, historic lamps, stone arcades, dramatic staircases, and one of Boston's most recognizable courtyards.
Designs By Don Florist can design around all of it. Your flowers can be romantic and overflowing, architectural, classic, garden-inspired, modern, colorful, sculptural, or completely transformative.
The floral plan can include your bridal bouquet, wedding-party flowers, ceremony installations, aisle flowers, statement arrangements, cocktail-hour flowers, reception centerpieces, long-table florals, elevated pieces, head-table flowers, bar flowers, cake flowers, escort-display flowers, and large-scale custom installations.
The scope is built around your vision. It is not limited by a preset package or an arbitrary maximum.
Your Vision Sets the Scale
A Boston Public Library wedding can support a polished floral plan or an ambitious full-scale transformation.
The question is not, "How many flowers do we need?" It is, "What should this room feel like when guests walk in?"
Once Designs By Don Florist understands that answer, the flowers, scale, mechanics, color, and installation plan can be built around it.
One Complete Floral Story
Designs By Don Florist can carry the same color story, flower varieties, movement, texture, and level of finish through every part of the wedding.
Bridal bouquets, bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnières, corsages, family flowers, and custom personal pieces designed around the clothing and overall wedding aesthetic.
Freestanding ceremony structures, aisle flowers, statement arrangements, floral columns, and focal designs created around the approved BPL space.
Centerpieces, long-table flowers, elevated designs, head tables, sweetheart tables, bars, cake flowers, escort displays, and statement floral moments.
Delivery, professional setup, custom mechanics, installation crews, room transitions, floral movement, breakdown, and removal planned as part of the design.
Space-Specific Floral Design
Designs By Don Florist considers the architecture, table layout, room scale, guest sightlines, photography, and approved installation locations before the final floral direction is established.
The Courtyard creates an extraordinary open-air ceremony setting surrounded by classical stone arcades and the architecture of the McKim Building.
Designs By Don Florist can create anything from elegant freestanding ceremony flowers to substantial floral structures that establish a dramatic destination for the vows.
The Grand Staircase is one of the strongest architectural moments inside the McKim Building and a natural location for memorable guest arrivals and wedding photographs.
Boston Public Library currently requires event décor to remain freestanding. Designs By Don Florist can therefore develop floral presence using independent mechanics rather than attaching flowers to the historic staircase, marble, railings, walls, artwork, or fixtures.
Bates Hall gives wedding floral design extraordinary visual runway with its barrel-vaulted ceiling, oak bookcases, historic reading tables, and recognizable green lamps.
Designs By Don Florist can use repetition, flower volume, height, texture, and color to create a reception design that feels intentional from one end of the room to the other.
Dark wood, historic murals, architectural detail, and the more intimate scale of the Abbey Room create a completely different floral environment from Bates Hall.
Designs By Don Florist can lean into the richness of the room with deep romantic color, textural garden flowers, classic white and green, sculptural arrangements, or dramatic statement pieces.
Guastavino Room
Boston Public Library describes the Guastavino Room as a first-floor McKim Building event space with a tiled ceiling, bookcase-lined mezzanine, and large windows facing Copley Square.
Designs By Don Florist can adapt the flower scale and layout to the room while keeping the bouquet, ceremony, reception, and overall color direction visually connected.
Depending on your floor plan, the design can include elevated centerpieces, long-table flowers, statement pieces, ceremony florals, bar flowers, head-table arrangements, floral focal points, and other custom installations.

A historic Boston venue requires a different level of planning from a traditional ballroom.
Designs By Don Florist considers floral mechanics, delivery, staffing, access, setup time, room transitions, breakdown, and removal before the design is finalized.
Review Current BPL Private Event InformationBoston Public Library currently requires event décor to remain freestanding rather than being attached to the building.
Approved load-in and setup times depend on the event spaces, library hours, and final event schedule.
Floral logistics should be finalized early enough for Designs By Don Florist, your planner, catering team, and Boston Public Library to coordinate access.
Boston Public Library currently prohibits open flame. A candlelit look therefore needs venue-approved flameless alternatives.
Boston Public Library currently prohibits decorative greens containing pitch. Designs By Don Florist accounts for that when developing the foliage recipe.
Arrangements, mechanics, rentals, and installation materials need to leave according to the approved event breakdown schedule.
Boston Public Library Wedding Cost
There is a major difference between the library's small one-hour ceremony program and a full private wedding using the McKim Building's main event spaces.
One-Hour Ceremony Program
$200Boston Public Library currently offers selected one-hour Guastavino Room ceremonies for $200 with up to 12 guests.
This is a separate program from a traditional private wedding. Outside vendors are limited to one officiant and one photographer, and additional decorations are not permitted under the current program.
Boston Public Library has announced that beginning in 2027, this program will increase to $300 and allow an 18-person guest count.
Full Private Wedding
Boston Public Library's currently linked private-event pricing guide lists the following Friday through Sunday evening base space fees.
These are venue base fees, not floral prices and not all-in wedding totals.
Food and beverage, rentals, planning, entertainment, photography, lighting, floral design, installation, and other event expenses are separate.

At this venue, the flowers are not simply a list of bouquets and centerpieces.
Flower volume, premium varieties, ceremony structures, reception design, custom mechanics, staffing, delivery, setup windows, room transitions, breakdown, and the number of spaces being designed all shape the final proposal.
Designs By Don Florist develops the proposal around the level of floral experience you want to create.
The number, scale, fullness, and density of the floral designs throughout the wedding.
Premium varieties, specialty colors, seasonality, imported product, and overall flower availability.
Large structures, fabrication, freestanding mechanics, installation crews, setup complexity, and breakdown.
Ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, entrances, bars, escort areas, stair locations, and additional floral destinations.
